FAQs
Before your LaseMD Ultra treatment, you will have a consultation with one of our Fitzrovia practitioners to assess your skin concerns and determine if this laser is right for you. A test patch may be performed.
Here’s what to expect during the procedure:
- Preparation: Your skin will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream will be applied for comfort. Protective eyewear will be provided.
- Laser Treatment: The handheld LaseMD Ultra device will be passed over the skin, delivering gentle laser energy to create microchannels and stimulate collagen production. You may experience a warming or tingling sensation.
- Serum Application: After treatment a serum is applied which penetrates much more effectively via the microchannels the laser created. The choice of serum is determined by your skin concerns and there are four options: Retinol, Tranexamic Acid, Vitamin C and Resveratrol.
- Post-Treatment Care: After the session, we may apply some soothing cream or a mask, and you will be given the rest of your serum ampoule to apply at home. Our team will also provide detailed aftercare instructions.
- Follow-up: Depending on your skin concerns, you may require a series of sessions for optimal results.
LaseMD Ultra is suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns, including:
- Melasma and hyperpigmentation
- Acne and acne scars
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Fine lines and early signs of aging
- Sun damage and enlarged pores
- Rosacea and redness
It is safe for all skin tones and can be tailored to different levels of intensity, making it an excellent option for many individuals. However, those with active skin infections or certain medical conditions should consult with our team before treatment.
- Melasma: LaseMD Ultra gently breaks down pigmentation while stimulating collagen production to improve skin tone without triggering inflammation.
- Acne & Acne Scars: The laser reduces oil production, kills acne-causing bacteria, and smooths out post-acne scars by enhancing skin renewal.
- Rosacea: LaseMD Ultra helps reduce redness by strengthening the skin’s barrier and improving overall skin health, leading to fewer flare-ups. As there is a vascular component to redness and rosacea we may suggest combining LaseMD Ultra with IPL or 3D Renew.
LaseMD Ultra is also used for the popular Baby Face treatment, which is a low-downtime treatment specifically focussed on skin radiance, glow and hydration. This treatment involves:
- Using LaseMD Ultra at a gentle intensity to create microchannels in the skin
- Infusing tailored serums such as vitamin C, tranexamic acid, or other antioxidants
- Stimulating deep hydration, brightening, and anti-aging benefits
The Baby Face treatment is ideal for those looking for an instant glow, improved skin texture, and a refreshed complexion with minimal downtime.
- Clear + Brilliant: LaseMD Ultra is more powerful and effective in treating deeper pigmentation and texture concerns while still being gentle.
- Fraxel: While Fraxel targets deeper skin layers, LaseMD Ultra offers a quicker recovery and is better suited for regular maintenance and melasma treatment.
- BBL/IPL: IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) targets pigmentation and redness but does not stimulate collagen or resurface the skin as effectively as LaseMD Ultra.
- Halo: Halo combines ablative and non-ablative wavelengths, whereas LaseMD Ultra is a purely sub-ablative laser, making it more comfortable and suitable for more skin types.
- Moxi: Both Moxi and LaseMD Ultra are Thulium 1927nm lasers, but LaseMD Ultra penetrates deeper, has the targeted serum ampoules and is more versatile with treatment settings. This makes LaseMD Ultra more effective for stubborn pigmentation and ageing concerns.
Results from LaseMD Ultra can last several months or years, with improvements seen after just one session. However, maintenance treatments every 3-6 months help maintain the effects. Lifestyle factors, skincare routines, and sun protection play a significant role in maintaining your results.
LaseMD Ultra is generally well-tolerated. Patients typically experience a prickly sensation during treatment, but discomfort is minimal. A topical numbing cream is applied for additional comfort.
- Avoid sun exposure and cosmetic tan application for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
- Discontinue retinoids or strong exfoliating products 3 days before treatment.
- Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.
Downtime is minimal. Most patients experience mild redness on the day of treatment which can sometimes persist for 24 hours. On the day after treatment a sandpaper-like texture can be felt for a few days however this isn’t visible to others, and you may apply make-up. Normal activities can be resumed immediately however we recommend avoiding hot saunas and other harsh environments while the skin heals. Sun protection is essential post-treatment.
LaseMD Ultra is a safe procedure, but possible side effects include:
- Temporary redness and swelling
- Mild peeling or flaking
- Rare instances of hyperpigmentation, which can be minimised with proper preparation and aftercare
- BBL/IPL – Effective for pigmentation and redness but does not improve texture as LaseMD Ultra does. We can combine the two treatments for patients who would like to work on all aspects of skin health.
- Microneedling with Radiofrequency – Great for deeper collagen stimulation and skin tightening. This is an excellent combination with LaseMD Ultra to target all layers of the skin and treat pigmentation.
- Chemical Peels – An alternative for pigmentation and acne but can require more downtime.
LaseMD Ultra is not only effective for skin rejuvenation but is also helpful in hair restoration. When combined with KeraFactor, a specialized serum formulated with bioidentical growth factors and peptides, this treatment stimulates the scalp to promote healthier, thicker hair growth.
- How it Works: The LaseMD Ultra laser creates microchannels in the scalp, enhancing the absorption of KeraFactor serum, which contains growth factors essential for hair follicle regeneration.
- Who Can Benefit: Ideal for individuals experiencing hair thinning, androgenetic alopecia, or general hair loss.
- Treatment Process: The procedure involves applying the laser to the scalp, followed by the application of KeraFactor serum, which penetrates deeply to nourish hair follicles and stimulate growth.
- Results: Many patients notice improved hair density and thickness after a series of treatments, with ongoing improvements over time.
This innovative combination makes LaseMD Ultra a powerful, non-invasive option for those looking to combat hair loss and promote healthier hair. It is painless and you can continue your normal day-to-day activities straight afterwards.
